The radio is JIS7 compliant. This means it remains watertight if submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. The West Marine VHF 150 is a lightweight radio housed in a well-armored die-cast metal case. On/off volume and squelch twist knobs are mounted in a concentric shaft on top of the radio.
A top-mounted adapter is ready to accept an optional speaker or microphone. Eight front panel pushbuttons control the remaining functions. On the side is an easy to operate push-to-talk switch, and a backlight on-off switch.
